Woolworth’s Halloween commercial. I used to love this store at Halloween time. I would always go to the one at Blue Ridge Mall in Kansas City. They did trick or treating there too.

How old is Halloween?

Halloween is one of the oldest holidays in existence. Ostensibly, the fall holiday is only predated by Passover (this one is debated, as the dates seem to be pretty close in line- depends on what historical text you want to go off of), New Years (in it’s forms) and most historians believe that almost since the beginning of man, there has been some form of spring festival.

“If you celebrate Halloween today, you are taking part in a holiday festivity that has a genealogical line of more than 6,000 years. For something to have survived that long, through the tides of human passion, war, famine and religious persecution- surely is a magnificent feat!”

Can it be October already? I absolutely love Halloween. Scary movies all month, candy galore,  haunted houses, corn mazes, creative costumes, decorated houses…I love it all! *sigh* I can’t wait.

hello nick

A very cool documentary about the real life dracula and a brief look at some of the dramatic appearances of the caped one. Hosted by the incomparable Vincent Price. From 1985, a decent enough doc becomes something to enjoy with the fun, campy and atmospheric Price as your host. Give it a watch. You will enjoy.

Watching some Vincent Price. Mr. Price will always be Halloween to me.

Some Halloween nostalgia for you, an 8mm of a Halloween party in 1939.

Wonderblog

Check out this really great blog, I’ve highlighted the Halloween section- but he has tons of cool stuff. Great resource for halloween music too.

Some cool halloween labels I found that you can print out, distress and use on bottles and decanters.

Tell me you wouldn’t want this cake at halloween time…
